Our values are our real valuables
Our happiness depends not on our valuables (what we have), but on our values (what we do with what we have). The seventh canto of Shrimad Bhagvatam describes how the demoniac monarch Hiranyakashipu, despite having more valuables than anyone else in the universe, was internally bankrupt because his values of extreme ego-centric hedonism made him crave endlessly for whatever he didn’t have. On the other hand, the devotee-saint Prahlad, despite being stripped of all valuables, was internally satisfied because his values of selfless pure devotion empowered him to constantly relish the remembrance of God, irrespective of his externals.
